Monmouth Wins 2014 MAAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship

New York, N.Y. - The Monmouth women's team captured its first ever title at the 2014 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championship at the New Balance Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.

The Hawks won the meet with an astounding score of 215.50. Rider University finished second with 94 points. Manhattan was third with 82.50 points, followed closely by Iona in fourth with 81 points. Saint Peter’s finished fifth with 66 and Quinnipiac sixth with 62 points. They were followed by Marist and Canisius.  

Manhattan’s Bianca Marten was chosen as the Most Outstanding Performer for Field Events. She placed second in the long jump with a 5.85 meter performance. She followed that up with a first place finish with a 12.38 meter triple jump. To finish her meet she placed second in the 60M hurdles with a time of 8.76 seconds. She scored a total of 26 points for her team to help the Jaspers to a third place finish.

Kate Avery from Iona College won Most Outstanding Performer for Track Events. She set a new MAAC record in the mile with a time of 4:38.16 and then followed that performance up with a stellar run in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:48.76

New MAAC records include Monmouth Tilah Young and Rider Rhea Phipps weight throw of 18.22M, Monmouth’s Lauren McDonald pole vault of 3.8M, Iona’s Kate Avery mile of 4:38.16, Manhattan’s Ida Virdebrant 1.75M high jump, and Monmouth’s Mariah Toussaint records in two events the long jump of 6.18M and a 200M time of 24.3 seconds. Iona’s distance medley relay of Rehberg, Delices, Stewart and Fellin finished out the meet by setting a new record at 12:00.77.
