Player of the Week

Jordan Schwartz - Niagara

Jr., P-OF, 6-2, 190, Hornell, N.Y./Hornell

The MAAC’s Player of the Week  is Jordan Schwartz, who was outstanding on the mound and at the plate for the Purple Eagles. Schwartz racked up 12 strikeouts through his 6.2 innings of work in Niagara’s 7-1 win North Carolina Central last Thursday, and finished the series 4-for-9 at the plate with a walk and four RBIs.  On the mound, the righthander didn't allow a runner to get past first base until the fourth inning and a run didn't cross the plate until the seventh. He scattered seven hits and issued just two walks. At the plate he wrapped up the series on Sunday with a 2-for-4 showing with a pair of RBI and a run scored. That added to his Saturday performance where he went 2-for-5 with a walk, a double, and an RBI in the doubleheader.

Pitcher of the Week

Andrew McGee – Monmouth

Sr., LHP, 6-2, 220, Toms River, N.J./Toms River South

The MAAC’s Pitcher of the Week is Andrew McGee, who threw a complete game in a 5-1 victory over Florida Atlantic last Friday night in Monmouth’s season opener. He scattered four hits and an unearned run in the win. He struck out six and didn’t walk anybody, shutting down an FAU lineup that scored 31 runs the previous weekend’s three games. After allowing a leadoff single in the bottom of the first, McGee got the next hitter to line into a double play, starting a stretch of 13 consecutive batters retired. The senior faced the minimum into the fifth and threw five 1-2-3 innings. All told, he faced the minimum in six of the nine frames. He also moved into fourth all-time at MU with his 13th complete game, sixth all time in career strikeouts and third all-time in wins with 21.

Rookie of the Week

Joey Rocchietti – Manhattan

Fr., RPH, 6-3, 215, Green Brook, N.J./ Watchung Hills

The MAAC’s Rookie of the Week is Joey Rocchietti. The freshman right-hander had a terrific collegiate debut, tossing six strong innings to earn the victory in Manhattan's 7-2 win over Delaware on Saturday. Rocchietti allowed just two runs on four hits in six innings of work. He struck out five batters and did not allow a base on balls. He induced 10 ground ball outs of the 13 outs he received in the field and hung up zeroes in five of the six innings he pitched.
