MAAC Administrators Named to Several NCAA Committees

Edison, N.J. – The NCAA has appointed seven MAAC administrators and coaches to its Division I Committees. The NCAA governance structure consist of legislative bodies that are comprised of volunteers from member schools that manage a wide range of topics including sports rules, championships, health and safety and matters impacting student-athlete opportunities in athletics.
“The MAAC membership has been active in NCAA committee service since the league was formed,” notes MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “Involvement in NCAA governance and sport committees both serves the needs of the NCAA for member administrators and coaches to provide guidance and expertise, while advancing the experience level of the volunteers in a wide range of important subjects.”
Monmouth University Athletic Director, Dr. Marilyn McNeil has been appointed to the Division I Women’s Basketball Issues Committee. McNeil was formerly a member of the NCAA Division I Committee on Women’s Athletics and the Management Council and recently served as chair of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee.
Michelle Mason, Iona College’s head women’s lacrosse coach, has been appointed to the Division I Women’s Lacrosse Committee. Mason has been the Gaels’ head women’s lacrosse coach since 2008. In 2011 she led Iona to a new single-season wins record. Since taking over at Iona she has coached six All-MAAC First Team members and six All-MAAC Second Team members.
Canisius College Senior Woman Administrator, Traci Murphy will now be serving on the Division I Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Committee. Murphy serves on MAAC committees for Athletic Administration, Finance, Gender and Minority Issues, Women’s Basketball, and is chair of the MAAC Swimming and Diving Committee.
Also from Canisius College, the head volleyball coach, Cathy Hummel has been appointed to the Women’s Volleyball Rules Committee. Hummel has been at the helm of the Canisius volleyball program since 2001 and is the program’s winningest head coach.
Rick Cole Jr., Director of Athletics at Iona College has been appointed to the Division I Women’s Volleyball Committee. Cole has recently served as chair of the NCAA National Lacrosse Committee and was also chair of the NCAA Division II Management Council.
Fairfield University Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Sydney Johnson, has been appointed to the Men’s Basketball Rules Committee. Johnson has been the head coach of the Stags since 2011. During his time at Fairfield Johnson has reached the MAAC Championship game and the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) semifinals in 2011-2012, and another postseason CIT berth in 2013.
MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor has been reappointed to the Division I Committee on Institutional Performance. Ensor has been very active with NCAA committees since 1999. He has spent time on the NCAA Division I Management Council, the Division I Championships Cabinet, the Division IAA Governance Committee, and the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee along with other positions along the way.
