FAIRFIELD, CONN. - The Fairfield University Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the Connecticut Girls Scout Council, hosted then 13th Annual Girl Scouts Day on February 2. More than 100 Girl Scouts from around Fairfield County participated in the day-long event on the University's campus.
"This is a truly wonderful event that we are proud to host every year," said event organizer Alison Sexton, Senior Associate Director of Athletics. "It is an opportunity for our female student-athletes to have a positive influence on the young women of our area. The great part of the program is that it introduces the Girl Scouts to sports that they may have never played before."
The program began with each Girl Scout participating in clinics with each of Fairfield's 11 women's varsity sports. Current Stags players provided instruction about their sport and had the Girl Scouts participate in drills and games related to the sport. The day ended with lunch where the Girl Scouts were able to learn more about the student-athletes and collegiate athletics.
The Girl Scout clinic was held in conjunction National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), which is sponsored by the Women's Sports Foundation.
