Player of the Week
Jimmy Luppens – Canisius
Sr., 1B, 6-0, 243, Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River
Jimmy Luppens earns MAAC Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week.. Luppens had the hot bat in the Golden Griffs’ series at Norfolk State, going 10-for-16 with five runs scored and 10 RBI in a four-game sweep. Luppens posted five RBI in the series-opening 17-5 win, scoring two runs and hitting two doubles. In the series finale, Luppens went 4-for-4 with three RBI. The senior reached base in 11 of his 17 plate appearances and posted a .750 slugging percentage.
Pitcher of the Week
Kurt Sowa - Rider
Jr., RHP, 6-4, 195, Bensalem, PA/Fr. Judge
Junior righty Kurt Sowa is the MAAC’s Pitcher of the Week. Sowa won his first game of the season, and helped Rider snap a five-game losing streak, in a 4-1 win over Delaware last Friday. Sowa, who was the MAAC’s “Pitcher of the Year” last season, was dominant against the Blue Hens, as he struck out seven and allowed just one hit in the victory. He is now 17-7 in his Rider career.
Rookie of the Week
Scott Boches - Marist
Fr., RHP, 6-4, 185, Featerville, Pa./Archbishop Wood
The MAAC’s Rookie of the Week is Scott Boches of Marist. Boches earned the victory in a pitchers' duel against Wofford by a 3-1 score on Saturday. He went 5.2 innings and allowed just one run while recording six strikeouts. Boches is now 2-0, and the Red Foxes have won all three of his starts this season.
