Quinnipiac Men's Basketball To Participate In CIT

EDISON, N.J. – The Quinnipiac University men’s basketball team will once again participate in a national post-season tournament this year. The Bobcats have accepted an invitation to play in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) and will face Yale in the first round on Wednesday, March 19.
It is the fourth time in the last five seasons that the Bobcats have been selected for a post-season event. Quinnipiac (20-11, 14-6) finished in a tie for third place in the MAAC regular season, and advanced to the semifinals of the MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship. It is the second time that the Bobcats will participate in the CIT, having made an appearance in the tournament in 2011. The Bobcats also received bids to the 2010 National Invitation Tournament (NIT) in 2010, and the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) in 2012.
Quinnipiac placed three players on All-MAAC teams, including first-team choice Ike Azotam, second team selection Ousmane Drame and third-team pick Zaid Hearst. Azotam was eighth in the MAAC in scoring averaing 16.5 points per game, and second in rebonding with 10.2 boards per contest. Drame contributed 13.7 points (No. 21 in the MAAC) and a league leading 10.3 rebounds per game, and Hearst averaged 15.7 points (No. 10 in the MAAC).
The CIT will begin play with first round games March 18-19. The second round is set for March 21-22, the quarterfinals are March 25-27, the semifinals are April 1 and the championship game is April 3. The semifinal round and the championship game will be televised on the CBS Sports Network.
Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams have enjoyed a great relationship with the CIT. In 2011, Iona advanced to the championship game before falling to Santa Clara. Last season, three MAAC teams competed in the tournament.
