Iona Travels to Louisiana Tech for Postseason NIT

Edison, N.J. - Iona College will face Louisiana Tech in the 2014 National Invitational Tournament (NIT) as announced in tonight’s selection show on ESPNU. The Gaels will take on the Bulldogs in the First Round on Wednesday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN3.
The Iona Gaels hold a 22-10 overall record and earned an automatic bid into the NIT by winning the MAAC regular-season title with a 17-3 conference record. Iona will be making its 5th appearance in the NIT and first time since 1997 when the Gaels lost to University of Connecticut in the first round 71-66.
Iona will be the No. 6 seed in the matchup. Louisiana Tech finished the season 27-7 and rounded out Conference USA play first in the regular season. The Bulldogs are 8-7 all-time in NIT games.
This matchup will be only the second time that the two teams have faced off against each other. The only previous meeting between the programs was in the 1986 with Louisiana Tech winning 84-54.
