Siena Hosting Stony Brook in CBI Tuesday Night at Times Union Center
Siena Sports Information
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - Siena will host a postseason basketball game Tuesday night for the first time in 11 years. The Saints welcome Stony Brook to Times Union Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the First Round of the College Basketball Invitational (CBI).
“It’s a great honor to be playing in a Tournament,” Siena coach Jimmy Patsos said. “It’s the first step. I think the reason we’re in it is because we have great tradition. To have a home game, that says you have great fans and a great program.”
Tickets range from $13-$25 for adults ($8 for children and non-Siena students) and can be purchased through TicketMaster starting at 11 p.m. Sunday night or in person at the Times Union Center Box Office beginning at 10 a.m. Monday. The box office will be open until 6 p.m. on Monday and reopen Tuesday at 10 a.m. Siena student tickets include free shuttle bus service to and from the game and are priced at $6 (must be purchased at Times Union Center box office).
Siena will debut a new seating configuration Tuesday night with the entire lower level opened up and the first nine rows in sections 205-209 and 227-231 available for purchase. Season ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase their seats up until 4 p.m. Monday by using TicketMaster’s Account Manager tool. Season ticket holders without e-mail access can purchase their seats in person at the Siena Fan Relations Center at Times Union Center or by calling 487-2202 before 4 p.m. on Monday.
Siena finished fifth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference under Patsos after being picked 10th of 11 teams in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Saints played a challenging non-conference schedule and won their final four regular-season games to earn a bye into the MAAC Tournament Quarterfinals.
Siena features a young, balanced roster without a single scholarship senior, and enter the CBI having already won seven more games than last season. The program is making its 12th postseason appearance (6 NCAA and 5 NIT) and first since making three straight NCAA Tournament trips from 2008-2010.
Stony Brook lost to UAlbany in the America East Championship game Saturday. The Seawolves are 23-10 on the season and feature America East Player of the Year Jameel Warney (14.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg).
Five MAAC teams advanced to postseason play, with Manhattan earning the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament (#13 seed vs. Louisville), Iona earning the automatic bid to the NIT (#6 seed at Louisiana Tech), and Canisius and Quinnipiac accepting invitations to the College Insider Tournament (CIT).
Siena enters the postseason with a 15-17 overall record, joining Cincinnati (2008), Oregon (2011), Oregon State (2009 and 2010), Purdue (2013), St. John’s (2009), Texas (2013) and Washington State (2012) as the only programs to receive an invitation to the CBI with a losing record - a tremendous nod to a Siena program that played its way into the Tournament late in the year.
The Saints won eight of their final 12 regular-season games and had the lead in the final 10 minutes of regulation in each of their final 13 games.
The winner of Tuesday night’s game will advance to play in the CBI Quarterfinals Monday, March 24 to face the winner of Penn State and Hampton. The location of that game will be determined after the completion of the First Round. The Semifinals will take place Wednesday, March 26 and the Championship Series (best of three) is Monday, March 31, Wednesday, April 2 and Friday, April 4 (if necessary).
