Quinnipiac Sweeps MAAC Tennis Weekly Honors

MAAC Men’s Player of the Week
Kei Ezaka, Quinnipiac University

Kei Ezaka amassed a team-high three wins during Quinnipiac’s spring break trip to Florida last week. Quinnipiac's lone win in singles came at No. 1 where Ezaka defeated South Dakota State's ace Andrea Boglić in thrilling fashion. He battled back from a first set loss, 2-6, and earned a 7-5 victory in the second set and clinched the point with a 10-5 triumph in the tie-break. Ezaka also won in his doubles match, where he and Ryoma Haraguchi defeated Andrea Boglić and Lucas Pereira, 8-5, at No. 2. Later in the week against Valparaiso, Ezaka and Haraguchi put forth a great match at No. 3 doubles, and claimed the upset. Ezaka and Haraguchi edged Eric Honert and Lucas Waak, 7-2, in the tie-break for the 8-7 triumph. Ezaka has a combined 28-12 record this season.

MAAC Women’s Player of the Week
Ariana Launie, Quinnipiac University

Ariana Launie posted a perfect week for the Bobcats, finishing off a 4-0 overall record on the team’s spring break trip to Florida. On Monday against South Dakota State, Launie collected the Bobcats’ lone singles win with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Tacy Haws-Lay at No. 6. Quinnipiac also captured the doubles point, where Launie again factored in as she paired with Kelsi Oliphant to defeat Beatriz Souza and Flor Magni at No. 3 (8-4). On Tuesday against Creighton, Launie battled back from a one-set deficit to defeat Sam Anderson at No. 5 singles, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 for Quinnipiac's third point of the match. She and Oliphant also remained perfect in doubles with an 8-4 win over Amanda Noonan and Liz Vermillion. Launie improved her career record to 70-60 at Quinnipiac.
