MAAC Hosts Successful Second Rounds in Buffalo

Buffalo, N.Y. - The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference along with Canisius College and Niagara University held a successful Second Round of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship at the First Niagara Center in Buffalo, N.Y.

The second round had two sessions on Thursday, March 21 withb oth sessions drawing large crowds in the 19,260 seat arena. The first session was a sell-out crowd and the second brought in a total of 18,706 fans.

The first session featured the Ohio State Buckeyes taking on the Dayton Flyers where the No. 11 Flyers upset the No. 6 Buckeyes followed by the Syracuse University Orange facing the Western Michigan Broncos. The Orange advanced to the third round of the tournament with a score of 77-53.

In the second session, the University of Connecticut Huskies narrowly advanced over the Saint Joseph's University Hawks in overtime. The Huskies will face the No. 2 Villanova Wildcats after they defeated No. 15 Milwaukee.

The third round in Buffalo will commence at 7:10p.m. on Saturday, March 22 with the No. 3 Syracuse Orange facing the No. 11 Dayton Flyers followed by the No. 2 Villanova Wildcats versus the No. 7 Connecticut Huskies at 9:50p.m. 

This is the sixth time that the MAAC has hosted an NCAA championship at the First Niagara Center including five NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship events and the Frozen Four in 2003. Each of these previous NCAA Championship events had sold out ticket sales.
