VMI Sweeps MAAC Water Polo Weekly Award Honors

Edison, N.J. – Three student athletes from Virginia Military Institute sweep the MAAC weekly water polo honors. The MAAC Offensive Player of the Week is Caitlyn Jackson and the MAAC Defensive Player of the Week is Emily Cait Farsakian. The MAAC Rookie of the Week is Cecilya Lundy.
Caitlyn Jackson was a force to be reckoned with this weekend, helping the Keydets to a 4-1 record during the 2014 VMI Classic. The sophomore scored 19 goals over the weekend, including two five goal games against Mercyhurst and Grove City and another four goal game against Notre Dame College. She added a pair of assists while also scoring the eventual game-winning goal against Notre Dame College in the first game of the Classic.
Emily Cait Farsakian registered a goals against average of 8.8 over five games this weekend for the Keydets. The sophomore goalkeeper went 4-1 during the 2014 VMI Classic. Farsakian was stout in goal, holding three of the five foes she faced to single digits. She made 49 saves at a 52.7 percent clip, including a 17-save effort in the opening game of the Classic, one of the highest save totals recorded at Clark King Pool. Farsakian played 160 minutes between the pipes for VMI over the weekend.
Freshman Cecilya Lundy helped VMI to a 4-1 record during the 2014 VMI Classic, racking up 12 goals and five assists over the weekend. Playing in the first home games of her career, Lundy scored at least two goals in every game of the Classic, including a four-goal game against Mercyhurst. She finished the weekend with 17 points.
