Player of the Week
Jimmy Luppens – Canisius
Sr., 1B, 6-0, 243, Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River
The MAAC’s Player of the Week is Jimmy Luppens, who recorded multi-hit games in a 3-0 week for the Golden Griffins. Luppens posted four extra base hits and collected six RBI in the sweep of East Tennessee State. Luppens, the MAAC’s Preseason Player of the Year, hit .500 with two doubles and two home runs, and posted a 1.167 slugging percentage for the weekend. The slugging first baseman also had at least one RBI and scored a run in each game. A third-inning double from Luppens in Saturday’s 2-0 win proved to be the game-winning hit.
Pitcher of the Week
Rohn Pierce – Canisius
Jr., RHP, 6-3, 210, Lockport, N.Y./Newfane
It was his first career shutout as Pierce blanked defending Atlantic Sun champion East Tennessee State, 2-0, last Saturday. The junior righty allowed three hits, walked zero and struck out six on 87 pitches. Pierce was just as effective at the end of the game as we was at the start. He retired the first 10 batters he faced and also retired the final 12 batters of the contest. Pierce allowed just one baserunner to reach second base in the entire game.
Rookie of the Week
Liam Stroud - Niagara
Fr., RHP, 6-4, 225, Maple Ridge, B.C./ Westview Secondary School
The MAAC’s Rookie of the Week Is Liam Stroud, who had yet another strong outing on the mound for the Purple and White in a six-inning, six-strikeout performance against Bucknell last Saturday. The Maple Ridge B.C. native threw 4.2 innings of scoreless baseball before the Bison were able to scratch across a run in the fifth inning, the only run Stroud would allow. He pitched six complete innings, gave up one run on seven hits, and turned in a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 6/1.
