The First Round of the 2014 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship Start Tomorrow

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The 2014 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship begins Thursday, March 6 with three first round contests at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass.
No. 8 Niagara University (10-19, 8-12) and No. 9 Monmouth University (7-24, 6-14) will open up the 2014 championship at 9:30 a.m. Niagara swept Monmouth in the two regular season meetings. The Purple Eagles defeated the Hawks on Jan. 19. 48-45 and on Feb 22. 85-57. The winner of this game will take on No. 1 Iona College on Friday at 12:00 p.m.
At 11:30 a.m. No. 7 Manhattan College (9-20, 8-12) will face No. 10 Siena College (8-21, 3-17). The teams split their two regular season match ups. Siena won the first meeting 82-58 on Jan. 05. Manhattan avenged the loss later in the month on Jan. 30 by the score of 62-55. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals and take on No. 2 Marist College at 7:00 p.m. on Friday night.
The final game of the first round features a match up between No. 6 Rider University (13-16, 9-11) against No. 11 Saint Peter’s University (3-26, 3-18) at 1:30 p.m. Rider took both previous games against Saint Peter’s. Rider defeated Saint Peter’s on Jan. 09, 68-40 and on Jan. 18, 56-55. The winner of this match up will face No. 3 Fairfield University in the final game of the quarterfinals on Friday night at 9:30 p.m.
