Statement from MAAC Commissioner Regarding Jump Ball Situation during Niagara vs. Monmouth Women's Basketball Game

Following the end of the Niagara vs. Monmouth women’s basketball opening round game, I asked MAAC Coordinator of Officials Marty Novitch to review a jump ball possession call with the conference office staff and the women’s basketball committee to determine if the game officials and game management staff were incorrect.

Niagara started with possession at halftime. Following that, there was a jump ball at 16:34 and possession went to Monmouth. The next held ball, should have been given to Niagara with 1:44 left on the game clock instead, it was given to Monmouth.

As a result, I determined the table crew was in fact incorrect and Niagara should have been given the ball with 1:44 left to play.

All related parties have been reprimanded by the Commissioner.
