MAAC Women's Basketball Quarterfinal Action Set for Friday

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – The quarterfinal matchups are set for the 2014 MAAC Women's Basketball Championship on Friday.
No. 1 Iona College will face No. 9 Monmouth University at 12:00 p.m. to kick off the round. Monmouth knocked off No. 8 Niagara University in the first round of the championship 66-62. Iona swept both games against Monmouth during the regular season. The Gaels defeated the Hawks 86-77 on Jan. 24 and 60-59 on Feb. 14.
At 2:30 p.m. No. 4 Quinnipiac will play No. 5 Canisius. Quinnipiac took both regular season contests against Canisius this season. The Bobcats earned a 65-55 victory on Dec. 21 and 65-51 win on Feb. 9.
No. 2 Marist College squares off against No. 10 Siena College at 7:00 p.m. after the Saints picked up a huge upset win over No. 7 Manhattan 87-66 in the opening round. The Red Foxes were victorious in the last two meetings of the season over the Saints. Marist beat Siena 78-60 on Jan. 7 and 78-39 on Feb. 6.
The final game of the quarterfinal round at 9:30 p.m. will pit No. 3 Fairfield University against No. 6 Rider University which upended No. 11 Saint Peter’s University 64-55 in the first round. Fairfield earned two wins in the regular season series against Rider. The Stags won 67-61 on Dec. 27 to open league play and then 52-50 on Feb. 13.
The winners of the quarterfinal round will play in the semifinals on Sunday March 9, which will be featured on ESPN3.
