MAAC Women's Basketball Championship Final Set for Monday on ESPNU

SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – No. 2 Marist College will face No. 4 Quinnipiac University in the championship game of the 2014 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship at the MassMutual Center in Springfield, Mass.
No. 4 Quinnipiac earned a spot in the title game by defeating No. 5 Canisius College 72-61 in the quarterfinals, and top seeded Iona College 79-68 in the semifinals.
Second seed Marist got to its 11th consecutive title game by knocking off No. 10 Siena College 87-65 in the quarterfinal round, and No. 6 Rider University 70-59 in the semifinals game. Marist will be looking to win its 9th straight title and 10 of the last 11.
Marist swept Quinnipiac during the regular season, knocking off the Bobcats 69-63 on Dec. 04 in Quinnipiac’s first ever league game and again on Feb. 14 100-81. Both teams won conference titles in 2013 and where NCAA qualifiers.
The last time a No. 2 seed and No. 4 seed met in the title game was in the 2004 championship when second seed Marist defeated fourth seed Canisius to start the current title run the Red Foxes are currently on.
The championship game will be broadcast live nationally on Monday at 2:00 p.m. on
ESPNU.
