Edison, N.J. – Following the start of MAAC competition this week, the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week is Amy Olsen of Iona College. The MAAC Defensive Player of the Week is the Gaels’ goalkeeper Marisa Gaynor, while the MAAC Rookie of the Week is Amanda Amorosa of Marist College.

Olsen tallied 24 points over four games for Iona as the Gaels went a perfect 4-0 in MAAC play.  Olsen also grabbed 17 steals and drew 11 ejections over the weekend.  In a pair of home games, Olsen tallied nine goals, including a six goal effort against Villanova before scoring another three goals in her final home game against Marist.  The following day, Olsen tallied seven points on five goals and two assists against Siena before finishing the weekend with eight points on six goals and two assists in a win over VMI.  Olsen’s fifth goal of the day, the 331st of her career, moved her into first all-time in goals scored in program history.

Gaynor, the senior goaltender, registered 38 saves in four games as the Gaels went 4-0 in MAAC play and moved into first place in the standings. Gaynor combined for 15 saves over two games to help the Maroon & Gold pick up two wins at home over Villanova and Marist. Gaynor had eight saves against the Red Foxes in her final home game, where each save as pivotal as the last with Gaels outlasting Marist 14-13.  Against Siena, Gaynor made 12 saves before ending the week with an 11 save effort while surrendering six goals against VMI.  Gaynor was also credited with five steals over the four games.

Amorosa aided the Red Foxes to their victory over VMI on Sunday, posting three goals. Over the team’s four-game stint, Amorosa compiled eight goals and five assists for 13 points. She also notched five assists, three field blocks, two steals, and two drawn ejections. Amorosa is currently tied for the team lead with 53 goals this season, while taking second in assists with 36 and ranks top 10 in the MAAC in scoring.
