Avery & Lipshchutz Named Corvias ECAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Edison, N.J. –Iona College's Kate Avery and Monmouth University's McLean Lipshchutz have been named Corvias ECAC Division I Metro/Upstate Men's and Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Week for April 6th.
Iona's sophomore Avery shattered Iona’s school record in the 5,000-meter event at the Stanford Invitational Friday night in California. Avery was the second collegiate finisher and was fourth overall in the event, finishing with a time of 15:27.90. She was the first-ever Gael harrier to run a sub-16 minute 5k and topped the nine-year old school record by 36 seconds. With Texas' Marielle Hall serving as the race winner in 15:19.26, Avery has run the fastest time on the NCAA Division I East Qualifying list, and second fastest time in the NCAA this season.
Monmouth's sophomore Lipshchutz won the javelin with a mark of 234 feet 8 inches (71.53 meters) at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, setting a facility record and qualifying for IC4A’s, topping 22 competitors with his big throw. His performance this weekend earned him a No. 11 national ranking on the NCAA Division I Qualifying List.
