2014 MAAC Rowing Championships Set for April 26

Edison, N.J. – The 2014 MAAC Men's and Women's Rowing Championships will take place on Saturday, April 26 at Lake Mercer in West Windsor, New Jersey.
At the 2013 championships, Marist College took home both the men's and women's titles. The Red Foxes narrowly took home both victories with the men’s program finishing in first place with 150 points overall only 1 point ahead of Jacksonville University while the Marist women finished with 45 points, edging Fairfield University by only 2 points. This year's championships will be just as close as a number of teams look to take the title from the defending champions.
Fairfield University and Jacksonville University men’s programs will be a challenge for Marist, considering Fairfield is on a current winning streak as its varsity eight won both the Sacred Heart Invitational and the Spring Metropolitan Regatta against Marist and other MAAC opponents. As for Jacksonville University its team has shown they are back and ready to compete after winning the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships for the eighth consecutive year.
For the women, Drake University, Fairfield University and Jacksonville University prove to be formidable opponents to challenge Marist. The JU squad showed its strength early in the season winning against MAAC opponents Drake and Stetson and then again at the FIRA Championships finishing No. 1 in four heats and second in one to hoist the team trophy. Drake has been preparing hard for the championship, after the week one lost to Jacksonville, Drake has recovered to turn in numerous first place finishes from its crew including a first place team finish last weekend at the Lubber's Cup. Fairfield showed its team is ready for competition by winning last week's Spring Metropolitan Regatta team championship over Marist.
MAAC newcomer, Stetson University, will compete in its first MAAC Championship and joins the mix of teams looking to take home the championship trophy. The Hatters have shown toughness and dedication in the regular season and are excited to see the results in the championship.
On Friday, April 25, fans can watch the MAAC Awards Show highlighting achievements of tennis and rowing student-athletes at 6 p.m. The event is aired live on MAAC.TV in High Definition and available free of charge.
