Player of the Week

Jake Salpietro – Fairfield

Sophomore, DH, R/R, 6-1/190, Berkley, Mass./Somerset-Berkley

The MAAC Player of the Week is Jake Salpietro. Salpietro hit .471 (8-for-17) with a .941 slugging percentage. Salpietro also drove in seven runs, and posted three multi-hit games, to help the Stags to a 4-1 week. Salpietro scored four runs, drew three walks, stole a base, and had an on-base percentage of .550. Five of his eight hits were for extra bases including three doubles, a triple, and a homer. In the doubleheader sweep at New York Tech. Salpietro went a combined 3-for-5 on the day, with two doubles, three walks, three runs scored, and two RBIs. In Fairfield’s 10-3 victory over Monmouth on Friday, the sophomore was a triple short of the cycle, going 3-for-5 with a single, a double, and homer while driving in three runs. In the 7-1 series-clinching win over Monmouth on Saturday, Salpietro went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.

Pitcher of the Week

Jeff Singer - Monmouth  

Jr., LHP, 6-0, 195, Riverton, N.J./Holy Cross/ Gloucester C.C.

The MAAC Pitcher of the Week is Jeff Singer. The junior lefty was near perfect against Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday, April 17, tossing seven perfect innings and not allowing a base runner until the first batter of the eighth inning. After allowing that base hit, Singer got a pop up and a ground ball double play to face the minimum through eight, throwing only 71 pitches in the process. Adam Yunginger came on to get the final three outs in order, as Monmouth allowed just one FDU base runner in the 10-0 win. Singer’s final line was eight innings, one hit, no walks and five strikeouts. He faced 24 batters, and recorded 1-2-3 innings for seven straight frames. Singer has now thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings.

Rookie of the Week

Grant Lamberton – Monmouth

Fr., IF, 6-2, 180, Newark, Del./Salesianum

The MAAC Rookie of the Week is Grant Lamberton. The freshman infielder had a big week at the plate, going 8-for-17  and hitting for a .471 average. His on base percentage was .526, and he posted a slugging percentage of .647. He notched his first career three-hit game against Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday, going 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a double and a stolen base. He continued his stellar play with another three-hit game in Game 1 at Fairfield on Friday, knocking two doubles and scoring a run. On Saturday at Fairfield in the final game of the series, he was on base three times in the MU victory. He started all four games at third base and did not commit an error.
