EDISON, N.J. – Jeff Singer of Monmouth University was named the Corvias ECAC Division I Metro-Upstate Pitcher of the Week, the ECAC announced.
Singer, who earlier this week was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference’s “Pitcher of the Week,” nearly tossed a perfect game a game in a victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday, April 16. Singer threw seven perfect innings and did not allow a base runner until the first batter of the eighth inning. After allowing a base hit, Singer got a pop up and a ground ball double play to face the minimum through eight, throwing only 71 pitches in the process. Adam Yunginger came on to get the final three outs in order, and FDU went 27 up, 27 down against Monmouth, as the Hawks took a 10-0 win.
Singer’s final line was eight innings, one hit, no walks and five strikeouts. He faced 24 batters, and recorded 1-2-3 innings for seven straight frames. Singer has now thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings.
The junior southpaw hails from Riverton, N.J., and attended Gloucester County College before matriculating at Monmouth.
