Pugliese and Raynor Earn Final MAAC Tennis Player of the Week Honors

MAAC Men’s Player of the Week

Victor Pugliese, Monmouth University

Jr., 6-0, Boulogne, France/CNED/San Diego

After Victor Pugliese, along with doubles partner Christian Vieira, help lead the Monmouth tennis team to the doubles point against Quinnipiac with their 8-4 win at No. 1, Pugliese capped off a stellar first year in a Monmouth uniform in singles play.  The junior notched his 13-striaght win, a three-set victory over QU’s Kei Ezaka, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6. With the victory, Pugliese finished 15-1 overall at No. 1 dual matches and 21-4 in singles events dating back to the fall slate. Pugliese also downed all six of his MAAC opponents to finish the regular season 6-0 in league play. 

MAAC Women’s Player of the Week

Jacqueline Raynor, Quinnipiac University

Jr., 5-10, Garden City, N.Y./Garden City

Jacqueline Raynor extended her winning streak to seven straight at singles and 13 straight at doubles with a 3-0 record in last week’s competition. Raynor defeated Monmouth’s Ashley Sandler in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 2 on Thursday; and followed with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Manhattan’s Gabriella Leon to help Quinnipiac clinch the MAAC Regular-Season Title on Tuesday. Raynor improved to 117-56 for her career, which has her ranked 14th on Quinnipiac’s all-time list. She also picked up her 40th win of the season and moved into a tie for eighth place for most wins in a single-season at QU. She is 17-10 in singles this year and 23-6 in doubles.
