Manhattan Men, Siena Women Lead After Round One

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Manhattan College men’s and Siena College women’s teams lead after the first day of the 2014 MAAC Golf Championships at Disney’s Palm Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The Jaspers, led by senior Jonathan Feuer (76), posted a score of 310 to lead the way. Three Jasper golfers hold spots in the top ten individual scores on the leader board. Saint Peter’s is currently in second with a score of 315, followed by the Canisius Golden Griffins holding the third place spot with a score of 317. Siena and Fairfield are tied at fourth (318) while Monmouth holds sixth place (319), Iona takes seventh (320), Rider is at eighth (329), followed by Niagara (338).
Fairfield University’s Alex Taylor is the individual leader after 18 holes, posting a 73, only one stroke over par on the 72-par course. Only one stroke from the lead is Siena College’s Scott Kim who currently sits in second place (74). Eric Edmunds rounds out the top three competitors after the first round with a score of 75, three over par.
On the women’s side, Siena claimed a 21 stroke lead over the field. The Saints posted a score of 319 with four of its individual competitors finishing in the top five on the leader board. In second are the Quinnipiac Bobcats amassing a 340 score after the first day. Niagara University sits in third after posting a combined score of 341. Fairfield (342) and Monmouth (342) are tied for fourth,followed by University at Albany (343) and the University of Hartford (350).
Kylie Strijek of Siena College leads the field of golfers after today's 18 holes, posting a 75 score, only three strokes over par. Fairfield University’s Michelle Applegate holds second place, just three shots behind Strijek. Siena's Kristen Bromley rounds out the top three individuals for the women with a score of 80.
Competition resumes tomorrow with the men teeing off at 7:30 a.m. from the first tee, followed by the women at 7:40 a.m. from the tenth tee.
