Player of the Week

Brett Siddall – Canisius

Sophomore, OF, 6-0/201, Windsor, Ontario/Windsor

The MAAC Player of the Week is Brett Siddall.  In six Canisius wins, Siddall went 10-for-20 with 12 RBI and posted a .560 on-base percentage. He also had a .700 slugging percentage. Siddall set a career high with five RBI in the Golden Griffins’ win over Buffalo on April 22. The sophomore outfielder also led off the ninth-inning rally against Youngstown State on April 23, when he was hit by a pitch and then scored the game-tying run. Siddall had four games with multiple hits and multiple RBI, including five hits and four RBI in the doubleheader sweep of Marist on April 27.

Pitcher of the Week

EJ Ashworth – Fairfield   

Junior, RHP, 6-4, 210, Orange, Conn./Amity

The MAAC Pitcher of the Week is EJ Ashworth. The junior righthander got 26 of 27 outs against Siena, nearly going the distance in the combined shutout, 4-0 victory. Ashworth (4-2) went 8.2 innings, scattering three hits, all singles, and a walk while striking out six batters on 125 pitches. He won his second straight start and his 12th career game, which place him among Fairfield’s career top-15 in victories. Ashworth retired nine of the first 11 batters of the game. After hitting a batter in the fourth inning, Ashworth retired the next 12 batters he faced until issuing a one-out walk in the eighth inning. Ashworth retired the first two batters in the ninth, before Siena managed to put two base runners on. Ashworth yielded to closer Andrew Gallagher who got the final out on a foul pop.

Rookie of the Week

Alex Beckett - Iona

Freshman, C, 5-10, 190, Harrison, N.Y. /Harrison

The MAAC Rookie of the Week is Alex Beckett. The first-year backstop led the Gaels in five games last week with a .529 batting average, recording nine hits in 17 at bats. Beckett drove in six runs and scored five times. He  recorded three doubles and reached base safely in all five contests. Beckett had three multiple hit efforts,  including a 3-for-4 day vs. New York Tech in a midweek non-conference game, and a 3-for-5 performance in the series finale vs. Niagara. Beckett recorded an on-base percentage of .579 and slugged .706 to lead the Gaels. Defensively, Beckett was perfect on 31 chances and threw out four out of eight potential base stealers on the week.
