Avery & Lipschutz Earn Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week

Edison, NJ –Iona College's Kate Avery and Monmouth University's McLean Lipschutz were named the MAAC Outdoor Track & Field Performers of the Week for April 7th.

McLean Lipschutz won the javelin with a mark of 234’8” (71.53m) at the Liberty Collegiate Invitational, setting a facility record and qualifying for IC4A’s, topping 22 competitors with his big throw. His performance this weekend earned him an No. 11 national ranking on the NCAA Division I Qualifying List.

Iona College's sophomore Kate Avery shattered Iona’s school record in the 5,000-meter event at the Stanford Invitational Friday night in California.  Avery was the second collegiate finisher and was fourth overall in the event, finishing with a time of 15:27.90.  She was the first-ever Gael harrier to run a sub-16 minute 5k and topped the nine-year old school record by 36 seconds.  With Texas' Marielle Hall serving as the race winner in 15:19.26, Avery has run the fastest time on the NCAA Division I East Qualifying list, and second fastest time in the NCAA this season.

The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held on May 3rd and 4th at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
