Player of the Week

Joey Aiola – Marist

Sophomore, 2B,  6-2/160, Suffern, N.Y./Suffern

The MAAC Player of the Week is Joey Aiola. The sophomore  hit .556 with five hits in nine trips to the plate,  an on-base percentage of .636 and a slugging percentage of .778 as Marist swept Saint Peter's in a three-game series last weekend. Aiola also scored five runs, and had two RBI. He hit safely in all three games, with two doubles, two walks and a stolen base. In the first game of a May 10 doubleheader, Aiola went 1-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk in a 13-6 Marist win. He singled and scored in Marist's eight-run second inning. In the second game of the DH, a 5-2 Marist win, he went 1-for-1 with two runs scored, an RBI, a double, a walk and a stolen base. In the bottom of the second inning, his RBI double tied the game at 2-2. He then stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly to put Marist up for good. In the Red Foxes' 9-2 triumph on May 11, Aiola was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a double, with hits in his first three plate appearances. He singled and scored in the fourth inning to give Marist a 3-0 lead, and also singled and scored in the Red Foxes' six-run sixth inning.

Pitcher of the Week

Jordan Eich - Marist   

Senior, LHP, 6-4, 210, Spencerport, N.Y. /Churchville-Chili

The MAAC Pitcher of the Week is Jordan Eich. The senior southpaw tossed seven shutout innings in Marist's 9-2 win over Saint Peter's on May 11. He allowed just three base runners, scattering two hits and yielding one walk, and no Peacock reached third base in his outing. He also recorded seven strikeouts. Eich retired the final seven Peacocks he faced, and also retired eight consecutive batters between the second and fifth innings. He retired the side in order in five of his seven innings, and threw an economical 94 pitches.

Rookie of the Week

Jose Carrera – Manhattan

Freshman, IF, 5-6, 145, Miami, Fla., St. Brendan

         

The MAAC Rookie of the Week is Jose Carrera.  Carrera hit .583 with a .615 on-base percentage and .833 slugging percentage in Manhattan's three-game series at Villanova last weekend. Carrera had seven hits in 12 at-bats, including a double, triple, three RBI and three stolen bases. Carrera posted multiple-hit games in each contest. In Friday's opener at Villanova, Carrera went 3-for-4, scored both of the Jaspers' runs, ripped a double and had a career-high three stolen bases. Carrera reached base four times in five trips  On Saturday, Carrera went 2-for-4 with an RBI triple and on Sunday, Carrera was the main table setter again going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI, including driving in Manhattan's second run of the game, which gave the Jaspers the lead for good in a 6-4 victory.
