MAAC Scores High Again in Annual NCAA APR Report

Edison, NJ- Twenty five MAAC women’s sports and thirteen men’s sports achieved a perfect APR score of 1,000. MAAC Women’s basketball posted a conference wide APR of 992, 19 points higher than the national average of 973.  

“The MAAC continues to set a high standard of academic achievement among its member sports programs and above national averages for NCAA Division I teams,” notes Richard J. Ensor.  “Congratulations to the student-athletes for their success and to their coaches and administrators for setting expectations for success on the playing fields and in the classrooms.”

The NCAA’s APR (Academic Progress Rate) scores released Wednesday, May 15, 2014, are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, and 2012-13 academic years. The APR report is part of the NCAA’s overall Division I academic reform effort. The rate is a real-time measure of eligibility, retention, and graduation of student-athletes competing on every Division I team.

In MAAC women’s sports, Niagara had four out of nine teams post perfect scores of 1,000, while Fairfield’s men’s teams achieved perfect scores in four out of eight of its sports.

In the sport of women’s cross country, six out of the 11 schools offering the sport, achieved a perfect score of 1,000. Ten out of the 14 men’s and women’s golf teams also posted perfect scores of 1,000.

With 11 institutions strongly bound by the sound principles of quality and integrity in academics and excellence in athletics, the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference is in its 33rd year of competition. Current Conference members include: Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona College, Manhattan College, Marist College, Monmouth University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University and Siena College.
