Gray Named Director of Athletics At Niagara

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Niagara University is pleased to announce that Simon Gray has been appointed as the new director of athletics for the Purple Eagles. Gray has over 15 years of experience in athletic administration, and most recently served as the acting director of athletics at Eastern Kentucky University.
 
"We are very excited to welcome Simon Gray to Niagara University to lead the Purple Eagles," said the Rev. James J. Maher, C.M., president of Niagara University. "His experience as an athletic administrator and his commitment to the university's mission will be critical elements in the continued success of our athletic department. He will be a great asset to our student-athletes, and our entire athletic department, and his positive impact will be felt in the Western New York community and beyond."

Gray has been at Eastern Kentucky since 2005, and has served in a number of roles in the athletic department, including two separate stints as the acting athletic director. He has also worked as the senior associate director of athletics, and the associate director of athletics for advancement. While at EKU, he has managed the compliance, academic services and sports medicine initiatives. He also assisted the director of athletics in strategic planning, budgeting and facility planning, and he played a major role in revenue generation through both fundraising and corporate sponsorship.

"This is a great opportunity and I look forward to working with people on campus, and in the local and regional communities, to spread the great name of Niagara athletics."

Before joining Eastern Kentucky, Gray was the director of athletic public relations at the University of Richmond, where he worked with student-athletes on several community service projects, along with PR campaigns for a number of other projects.  Before that, he worked as the director of athletic media relations at East Tennessee State University. He began his career in college athletics as a media relations intern for the ice hockey team at Boston College.

Gray earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Richmond, and a master's degree from Eastern Kentucky University. Gray and his wife, Anne-Christine, have three daughters.
