Five Selected To Academic All-District Softball Team

Five student-athletes from Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference institutions were named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District 1 Softball Team, it was announced. The All-Academic teams are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their performances in the classroom and athletically.
The All-District teams include student-athletes from eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.
Pitcher Jen Consaul of Canisius College leads the Golden Griffins with 15 wins, with a 2.51 ERA. Consaul, who is Canisius’ all-time leader in complete games and appearances, is a communications major with a 3.59 GPA.
Catcher Lauren Liseth was the MAAC’s Preseason Player of the Year, after winning Player of the Year honors following the 2013 season. She ranks among Fairfield University’s all-time leaders in RBI (second with 122), triples (second with 14) and home runs (tied for first with 24). Liseth is a communications major with a 3.94 GPA and is a repeat Academic All-District choice.
Infielder Kate Bowen of Manhattan College was also selected to the All-District 1 Academic team for a second straight year. Bowen has a .331 batting average, and also leads the Jaspers with 10 victories as a starting pitcher. Bowen is a physical education major, and has earned a 3.86 GPA.
Siena College infielder Stephanie Viggiano a 3.87 GPA as an accounting major and leads the Saints with 52 hits and 12 doubles. Viggiano is currently second on the Saints with a .338 batting average and leads the team with 28 runs scored.
Outfielder Eileen McCann of Iona is leading the MAAC in hitting (.396) and has 22 RBI and .473 on-base percentage, which leads the Gaels. McCann has 3.67 GPA, pursuing a MBA in marketing.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first, second and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later in May. District 1 encompasses colleges and universities in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont.
