30 Qualify for NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Edison, NJ – 30 MAAC competitors qualified for the NCAA Division I Eastern Preliminary Outdoor Track & Field Championships to take place from May 29-31 at Jacksonville, FL. From the preliminaries the finalists will compete in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships taking place from June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.

Iona had ten athletes qualify to compete in the Eastern Preliminary round. Daniel Clorley, a graduate student from Luton, England and Matthew Gillespie, a graduate student from Dollar, Scotland will both compete in the Men’s 5,000m run. Matthew Gillespie will join Kieran Clements a sophomore from Hadleigh, England and Jake Byrne a junior from Mullingar, Ireland to represent Iona in the Men’s 10,000m run. Christopher Stogsdill a senior from Syracuse, N.Y. and Chart Miller a freshman from Perth, Australia will compete in the 1,500m event. Xavier King a sophomore from Ajax, Ontario qualified for the 3000m steeplechase. Qualifying for the Women’s Easter Preliminaries are Maya Rehberg, a freshman from Bad Segeberg, Germany who will participate in the 3,000m steeplechase. Tara Jameson a senior from Wicklow, Ireland qualified for the 5,000m run. Kate Avery a sophomore from Newton Aycliffe, England will represent Iona in the 5000m and 10,000m run. Xavier King a sophomore from Ajax, Ontario qualified for the 3000m steeplechase.

Manhattan will send six athletes to Florida for the Eastern Preliminaries. Mohamed Koita, a senior from Cergy, France qualified in the men’s high jump, while Love Litzell, a freshman from Ostersund, Sweden qualified for the men’s hammer throw joined by teammate Blerim Pocesta a sophomore from Staten Island, N.Y. Phillip Ragan a junior from Belmar, N.J. will participate in the javelin throw. Also representing the Jaspers will be sophomore Lydia Wehrli from Anieres, Switzerland she will compete in the women’s hammer throw and Lina Bengtson a freshman from Malmo, Sweden will compete in the shot put.

Monmouth will send eleven athletes to compete in the Eastern Preliminary round. Dylan Capwell a freshman from Hopatcong, N.J. will compete in the 800m run. Shane Carle a graduate student from Jackson, N.J. qualified in the shot put event. McLean Lipschutz a sophomore from Robbinsville, N.J., Vincent DuVernois a graduate student from Springfield, PA , Zach Torrell a junior from Manahawkin, N.J. and Kevin Gilhuly a graduate student from Wallingford, CT will all participate in the javelin throw. Kate Frye a junior from Point Pleasant, N.J. qualified for the 400M run, while Laura Williams a senior from North Brunswick, N.J. will compete in the 400M Intermediate Hurdles. Mariah Toussaint a senior from Tulsa, Oklahoma will participate in the long jump, Kelsey Reese a junior from Deptford, N.J. will compete in the javelin and Rachel Aliotta a senior from Cheshire, CT qualified for both the shot put and hammer throw.

Rider is sending two student-athletes to the Eastern Preliminaries. Emily Ritter a junior from Millsboro, Delaware will compete in the 3,000M steeplechase, while Rhea Phipps a senior from Basking Ridge, N.J. qualified for the hammer throw.

Saint Peter’s Isaiah Harris, a senior from Orange, N.J., qualified for two events in the Championships. He will in both the high jump and triple jump.
