Junior Connor Panas has been selected a Louisville Slugger Second-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball publication.
Panas is the fifth Canisius baseball player to be named an All-American in the last seven years and is the first player in program history to be named a Second-Team All-American.
The 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and a unanimous selection to the All-MAAC First Team, Panas posted a .362 batting average and led the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with six home runs and 51 RBI. The Etobicoke, Ontario native also had a .574 slugging percentage and 16 stolen bases in 53 games. A two-time MAAC Player of the Week, Panas earned Louisville Slugger National Player of the Week honors on May 5, after going 8-for-11 with three home runs and 11 RBI in a sweep at Quinnipiac.
Panas led the Golden Griffins to the MAAC regular season championship, and to the title round of the MAAC Championship. The Golden Griffins posted a 40-16 record in 2014.
Panas earned Capital One Academic All-District First-Team honors at the beginning of May and along with teammate Rohn Pierce, is eligible to be named a Capital One Academic All-American on Friday (May 30).
Panas joins Jon Fitzsimmons (2013 HM), Steve McQuail (2010 Third Team), Shane Davis (2008 Third Team) and Kevin Mailloux (2008 Third Team) as the only five Golden Griffin baseball players to be named All-Americans in program history.
