Both programs have previously won the MAAC Women's Lacrosse Championship and have a great deal of championship experience. Canisius is the three-time defending champion and was the runner-up in 2006. Marist won the league crown in 2008 and 2010, and was the runner-up in 2003, 2007, 2009, and 2013. In the only meeting this season between Marist and Canisius, the Red Foxes defeated the Griffs 10-9 on April 2 at Demske Sports Complex on the Canisius College campus.

The winner of the 2014 MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship earns the league’s automatic bid to the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. The NCAA selection show will take place on Sunday, May 4 on NCAA.com.
