Player of the Week
Connor Panas – Canisius
Junior, 3B, 6-0/212, Toronto, Ontario/Etobicoke Collegiate
The MAAC Player of the Week is Connor Panas. In a three-game sweep of Quinnipiac, Panas hit .727, going 8-for-11 at the plate with three home runs and 10 RBI. Panas’ hot bat helped the Golden Griffins extend their season-long winning streak to nine games, as Canisius moved into first place in the MAAC standings. Panas matched his career-high with four hits and set a career high with four RBI in a 5-0 win in the series opener. The junior then hit what proved to be the game-winning homer with a two-run shot in the sixth inning of a 4-2 win in the middle game. Panas hit two homers in the series finale, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored and again driving in four runs. It is the second time this season that Panas was named Player of the Week.
Pitcher of the Week
Jordan Schwartz - Niagara
Junior, RHP, 6-2, 190, Hornell, N.Y./Hornell
The MAAC Pitcher of the Week is Jordan Schwartz. Schwartz put together another highly effective outing for Niagara as he went the distance and gave up just one hit in a 2-1 win over Marist last Saturday. The junior had a no-hitter going through 5.1 innings and finished the game giving up one hit. He struck out nine and issued only two walks for his fourth win of the season. He sent the Red Foxes down in order in the third, fourth, fifth, seventh, eighth, and ninth innings. Schwartz threw 134 pitches in the complete game gem. This is the second time this season that Schwartz has received a MAAC Baseball Weekly Award.
Rookie of the Week
Grant Lamberton - Monmouth
Freshman, IF, 6-2, 180, Newark, Del./Salesianum
The MAAC Rookie of the Week is Grant Lamberton. The freshman continued to produce as one of the top hitters in the Monmouth lineup, hitting .400 last week. He went 4-for-10, driving in five runs and scoring six, getting on base at a .533 clip and slugging a whopping .800. Against Hofstra last Tuesday, Lamberton scored three runs, going 2-for-5 with a RBl. He enjoyed a personal milestone in the first game last Saturday against Rider, when he ripped his first collegiate career home run over the right field wall. Lamberton’s three-run shot propelled the Hawks to a five-run opening inning. On Sunday vs. Rider, he was 1-for-2 and was the catalyst of MU’s walk-off win in the 11th. He led the inning off with a walk, and advanced to second on Jon Guida’s sacrifice bunt attempt when he slid under the second baseman’s tag. He would ultimately score the game-winning run on Robbie Alessandrine’s walk off single. It is the second time this season that Lamberton has been named Rookie of the Week.
