Player of the Week
Alyssa Zahka - Marist
Sr., Util., 6-0, Lexington, Mass./Lexington
The MAAC Softball Player of the Week is Alyssa Zahka of Marist. Zahka led Marist to a 6-0 week, hitting .400 with three doubles and two homers. Zahka collected 10 RBI and boasted a slugging percentage of 1.000. In Marist’s 6-5 win over Siena, Zahka belted a two-run double and a two-run homer. Zahka slugged her second homer of the week, a two-run shot to left center in Marist’s 5-0 win over Canisius. Zahka kept the hits coming in the nightcap, as she opened the scoring for Marist with a two-run double. As the Red Foxes closed out their regular season with two wins over Saint Peter’s, Zahka continued her hot streak with yet another RBI double to kick off the first game. Defensively, she added 25 putouts and two assists with no errors on the week.
Pitcher of the Week
Melanie White – Marist
Jr., P, 6-0, Highlands Ranch, CO/Rock Canyon
The MAAC Softball Pitcher of the Week is Melanie White of Marist. White improved her season record to 6-6 with a pair of victories. In two appearances, White went 14 innings, and compiled 10 strikeouts and only allowed one earned run for a 0.50 ERA. In Marist’s 4-1 victory over Siena, White notched eight strikeouts, and allowed just one earned run and two hits in 28 batters faced. White added her second win of the week with an 8-0 shutout over Canisius. In seven innings, she compiled two strikeouts, scattered five hits and didn’t allow a run, facing 25 batters. White also added three assists in the win.
Rookie of the Week
Kristen Turner - Iona
Fr., IF, 5-7, Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township
The MAAC Softball Rookie of the Week is Kristen Turner. The freshman continued her outstanding rookie campaign, going 4-for-8 at the plate and hitting .500 in three games for the Gaels. Turner scored four runs and drove in four more. Against Siena, Turner went 1-for-3 with a double, driving in two runs and scoring once in a 6-4 Iona win. Turner then went 3-for-5 over two games of a doubleheader sweep of Rider. Turner scored twice in the first game, before going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored in the nightcap, a 11-3 Iona win.
