Strong Finishes in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. - Three MAAC competitors competed in event finals the the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. yesterday. Among them are Iona College's Matt Gillespie and Maya Rehberg as well as Saint Peter's University's Isaiah Harris.
Only a freshman, Rehberg fiinished 9th overall at the NCAA Championships in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She ran a personal best with a tie of 9:55.73 and broke her own school record. Her time put her in the Gael's record book as the first sub-10 minute time in the event in Iona history.
Gillespie, a native of Dollar, Scotland, finished his Iona career earning 22nd place in the 5,000-meter event. He clocked in with a time of 14:30.20.
Harris, a senior from Orange, N.J., finished in 19th in the high jump event and earned All-America honorable mention status. Harris made the 2.05m height on his first jump, missed his first two attempts for at 2.10m before successfully jumping over the bar on his final chance to move onto the 2.15m height where he would finish.
Three MAAC standouts will compete today in the NCAA Division I Track and Field Championships. They are Iona's Kate Avery competing the women's 5,000-meter and Monmouth University's McLean Lipschutz and Vincent DuVernois both competing in the javelin.
