Final Day at the NCAA Track & Field Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - Three MAAC athletes competed in NCAA Division I Track and Field Championship final events at the last day of competition in Eugene, Ore. Iona College's Kate Avery ran in the women's 5,000-meter event while Monmouth University's McLean Lipschutz and Vincent DuVernois both competed in the men's javelin.
Avery, a native of Newton Aycliffe, England, finished 8th in the 5,000-meter event. She clocked in with a time of 15:58.73, a mere 23.62 seconds behind the first place finisher Marielle Hall from Texas.
Lipschutz, a 6'1" sophomore from Robbinsville, N.J. was one of two Hawks to compete in the javelin. He fnished with a throw of 68.77 meters, good for 9th place overall in the event.
A native of Springfield, Pa, DuVernois placed 22nd in the javelin with a final throw of 60.47 meters. He earned honorable mention All-American accolade, being named All-American for the second time in his career.
