Seven MAAC Athletes Will Compete in Eugene

Edison, NJ – 30 MAAC competitors qualified for the NCAA Division I Eastern Preliminary Outdoor Track & Field Championships that took place from May 29-31 at Jacksonville, FL.  With stellar performances all throughout the weekend seven of our athletes are moving onto the next round for the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships taking place from June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.

From Iona, three athletes will move onto the next round. Kate Avery had a stellar performance in the 5000m run placing 5th with a time of 16:00.68 to qualify for Eugene. Maya Rehberg qualified in the 3000m steeplechase placing 5th with a personal best time of 10:03.48. Lastly, Matthew Gillespie had a dominating performance in the 5000m event placing 2nd with a time of 14:07.66.

In the 800m run Monmouth’s Dylan Capwell punched his ticket to Eugene by placing 5th with a time of 1:47.68. Dylan will be joined by teammates McLean Lipschutz and Vincent DuVernios who placed 5th and 6th respectively in the javelin with final throws of 70.38 and 69.32

Saint Peter’s Isaiah Harris will advance to next week with a 9th place performance in the high jump with a final effort of 2.14m.
