MAAC Women's Soccer Season Begins

EDISON, N.J. – The 2014 Women’s Soccer season opened up Friday with eight league teams in action. Three MAAC teams picked up season opening wins in their openers.
Iona picked up the leagues first win of the 2014 season with a 3-0 road win against LIU Brooklyn. Freshman forward Charlotte Stuart led the way for the Gaels in her first collegiate game scoring two goals. Iona picked up its first season opening win since the 2009 opener.
Manhattan earned a 2-0 season opening shutout in its home opener against Wagner. The Jaspers scored goals in each half and goalkeeper Kristen Skonieczny was only forced to make one save in the shutout.
Fairfield was the third team in the league to register a win, notching a 1-0 road victory at Army. Sophomore Brenna Brown scored the game-winning lone goal for the Stags helping them earn their first win over Army since 2006.
Siena opened up the season with a 3-0 home opening loss to Holy Cross. Quinnipiac fell to Maine 1-0 on the road. Marist dropped its home opener to Seton Hall 2-0. Monmouth lost a close 3-2 match to Delaware on the road. Canisius fell to NJIT 1-0 on the road.
Teams take the field again on Sunday.
