Men's Soccer Season Begins this Week

EDISON, N.J. –The first weekend of men’s college soccer begins on Friday, August 29, with a full schedule of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams in action. Nine of the leagues eleven teams open up the season on Friday.
Niagara kicks off the season with a matchup against Syracuse at 2 p.m. Iona will face off with Boston College at 4 p.m. and Canisius will begin their schedule when they visit Butler at 5 p.m. Saint Peter’s and Manhattan will begin their seasons with the Peacocks at Lafayette and the Jaspers will visit Lehigh at 7 p.m. Also at 7 p.m. Fairfield will travel to take on Army and Marist will face Villanova at home. Preseason favorite Monmouth will take on University of Massachusetts Lowell at 7:30 p.m. and Quinnipiac will travel to Northwestern for an 8 p.m. start time to conclude opening day.
On Sunday August 31, Canisius will take on the University of California Davis while Quinnipiac will take on Northern Illinois with both games being scheduled for a noon start. Rider will travel to Robert Morris for their first taste of action at 1 p.m. Niagara will face Colgate at 2 p.m. and Siena will open their season at home with a matchup with La Salle at 4 p.m. Iona will close out the weekend with an 8 p.m. game versus Boston University.
The 2014-15 academic year’s first installment of weekly awards will be announced on Monday, September 1. The league will select an offensive player, defensive player, and rookie of the week each week until the MAAC Championship.
The 2014 Men’s Soccer Championship will also in introduce the new 6-team championship format. The championship will start on November 8 with the No. 3 seed and No. 4 seed hosting at their institutions. The following week, the No. 1 seed will host the semifinals and finals on November 14 and 16.
