Wilson Offensive Player of the Week
Ashley Small, Fairfield
Sr., F, 5-5, Melville, N.Y./St. Anthony’s
The MAAC Preseason Player of the Year carried the Stags to their second straight win in a 3-1 win against Hartford. The senior tallied a career-high five points with two goals and assisting on the game-winner. Small got Fairfield on the board first finishing past the Hartford keeper in the first half to give the Stags a 1-0 lead. It was the first goal allowed by the Hawks this season. With the score tied 1-1, Small dribbled past the defense and tapped the ball to Cassidy Boegel in what would prove to be the game-winner. Small gave the Stags an insurance goal with less than five minutes to play for her second goal of the game. The win extended Fairfield’s home-unbeaten streak to 16 games, a new program record. In the weekend, Small took 11 shots with five on goal.
Wilson Defensive Player of the Week
Bethany-May Howard, Rider
So., GK, 5-7, Glastonbury, England/Bridgewater College
The sophomore keeper Bethany-May Howard recorded two shutouts on the week. She played 283 minutes only allowing 3 goals. Howard registered a shutout at Seton Hall in her season debut. On Friday against FDU, she made a career-high 10 saves in the 3-2 lost. Howard followed up Friday’s performance with a nine save shutout of Bucknell.
Wilson Rookie of the Week
Charlotte Stuart, Iona
Fr., F, 5-7, Essex Junction, VT/Essex
Freshman forward Charlotte Stuart tallied her fifth point of the season with an assist of the team’s game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart. In the 69th minute, Stuart registered a shot that was blocked by the SHU defense, allowing senior Safi Ayinde to connect on an open net chance for her first goal of the season.
