Maganto Named Senior CLASS Award Candidate
MAAC Sports
EDISON, N.J. – Iona College’s Ignacio Maganto has been named a candidate for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award in Division I men's soccer.
To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence - community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Maganto is a three-time All-MAAC selection, and two-time NSCAA All-North Atlantic Region honoree. After recording 21 points on nine goals and three assists in 2013, Maganto was named the 2014 MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, as well as a member of TopDrawerSoccer.com's Preseason Top 100 Upperclassmen. Maganto has 16 career goals and has scored 4 game-winning goals in his career. Maganto, an International Business major, is a three-time MAAC Academic Honor Roll selection and has been named to the MAAC All-Academic Team twice.
The candidate class will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2014 NCAA Men’s College Cup® championship in December.
