Martinez & Hetzke Earn Women's Basketball ECAC Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – Iona College senior guard Damika Martinez was named Division I Women’s Basketball Metro/Upstate “Co-Player of the Week” by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC), while Siena College freshman forward Margot Hetzke was named Division I Women’s Basketball Metro/Upstate “Rookie of the Week” by the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC).
Martinez shot 60 percent from the field while averaging 33.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game over two contests last week. The senior guard opened the week with 25 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals in a win over Siena. Martinez then registered a season-high 41 points in an 85-81 overtime loss to Rider.
Hetzke averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds while shooting 52.2 percent from the field in a pair of contests against Iona and Marist. The rookie forward scored 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting and added six rebounds versus Iona. Hetzke followed that up with a 16-point, six rebound performance against Marist.
The 2014-15 season culminates with the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. March 5-9. Tickets can be purchased here.
