Three MAAC Teams Take Home Multiple MAAC Women's Basketball Wins

EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac University remains atop the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference women’s basketball standings with an unblemished 9-0 record while remaining undefeated at home this season. Iona and Marist are tied at the number two spot sitting at 8-2, followed by Fairfield who remains right outside of the top three at 6-4, while Canisius and Siena are tied with 5-5 records to round out the fifth spot.   

The Siena Saints secured two league wins this past week defeating Manhattan and Monmouth to move up the standings into a tie for the fifth spot and are now a game out of fourth place. The Saints began their week at Monmouth on Thursday, January 22. Siena was able to hold down the two point victory over the Hawks 54-52. On Saturday, January 24 at Manhattan the Saints came away with the win in a 59-51 game for their second weekend sweep in MAAC play this season.

The Red Foxes split their games this past week, with their lone loss coming against top ranked Quinnipiac on Thursday, January 22. Marist fell to the Bobcats on the road by a score of 73-55 and returned to the court on Saturday, January 24 at home versus Saint Peter’s. The Red Foxes downed the Peacocks 77-51.

The Gaels picked up two wins in western New York this week, facing off against Niagara and Canisius. Iona was able to defeat the Purple Eagles 83-72 on the road on Friday, January 23 before traveling to Canisius on Sunday, January 25. The Gaels left Buffalo victorious against the Griffs after an 80-62 win.

The Stags now sit at 6-4 after having three games this past week, coming away with two of three victories. Fairfield began the week with two straight MAAC wins over Saint Peter’s and Rider. On Tuesday, January 20 Fairfield defeated the Peacocks on the road 57-47 before hosting the Broncs on Thursday, January 22 on ESPN3. The Stags finished the game with a three point victory, 43-40 over Rider. Fairfield’s only loss came against Monmouth on Sunday, January 25. The Stags fell 59-33 to the Hawks to finish out their week.

Closing out the top five tied with Siena at 5-5 is Canisius. The Griffs split their games this past week, defeating western New York rival Niagara on the road 66-55 on Wednesday, January 21in a “Battle of the Bridge” meeting before falling to Iona 80-62 on Sunday, January 25.

Quinnipiac was victorious in their only game this past week on Thursday, January 22, a 73-55 win over Marist to remain undefeated in league play. 

Monmouth finished the week with a 1-1 record, earning their fourth MAAC win of the season, spoiling Fairfield’s then 2-0 week.

The 2014-15 season culminates with the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. March 5-9. Tickets can be purchased here.
