Clarke, Capwell, Johnson, and Pocesta Capture Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – Rosie Clarke from Iona College is the MAAC Women's Track Performer of the Week. The MAAC Men's Track Performer of the Week is Dylan Capwell from Monmouth University. Taylor Johnson from Monmouth University is the MAAC Women’s Field Performer of the Week, while Blerim Pocesta from Manhattan College earned the award on the men’s side.
Graduate student Rosie Clarke from Iona College is the MAAC Women’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week. Clarke won the mile at Friday’s Metro Team Challenge at the New York Armory. She defeated the 46-person field with a blazing time of 4:37.82, clearing the pack by 3 seconds. Her time broke an Iona school record in the mile set by Kate Avery last year at the MAAC championships.
The MAAC Men's Indoor Track Performer of the Week is Sophomore Dylan Capwell from Monmouth University. At the Metro Team Challenge, Capwell finished in first place in the 800-meter run. His IC4A and U.S. Indoor Championship qualifying time of 1:49.47 was over 3 seconds ahead of the first place finisher in the 45-man field. His time propelled him into 7th place on the NCAA Indoor Track and Field leaderboard on the season.
Senior Taylor Johnson from Monmouth University is the MAAC Women’s Indoor Field Performer of the Week. At the Metro Team Challenge, Johnson took home first in the shot put with a toss of 13.26 meters, clearing the field by .99 meters.
The MAAC Men's Indoor Field Performer of the Week is Junior Blerim Pocesta from Manhattan College. At the Metro Team Challenge, Pocesta took home first place in the weight throw with a toss of 18.80 meters. In dramatic fashion, Pocesta won the event on his final throw, which was a personal best.
The 2015 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships will be held on February 21st at the New Balance Armory Track & Field.
