League Action Continues as Quinnipiac and Marist Remain Unbeaten

EDISON, N.J. – Quinnipiac University sits in first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference standings as the Bobcats stand at 4-0 following the first set of conference games to begin the start of the New Year. Marist College sits in a close second with a 3-0 mark as the Red Foxes also remain undefeated in league play. Niagara, Iona and Canisius sit tied for third place with 3-1 conference marks.

The Bobcats have won nine of their last ten games as the team recently earned home victories over Niagara on January 2 and Monmouth on January 4 to improve to 4-0 in the MAAC and 12-3 overall. Quinnipiac will put its unbeaten MAAC record to the test on Friday in a matchup versus a 3-1 Griffs team. On Friday, the Bobcats will face off with Canisius on the road at 7p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y. Quinnipiac will return to the court Sunday, January 11 to face off against Niagara on the road at 1p.m.

The Red Foxes are on a six game winning streak entering the week sitting at 3-0 in conference play and 7-5 overall. Marist’s latest victory came on a MAAC road win over Siena on January 2. Marist returns to the court to take on Fairfield at home on Tuesday, January 6 at 7p.m. in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. The Red Foxes will then take on Monmouth on the road on Saturday, January 10 at 2p.m.

The Purple Eagles, Gaels, and Griffs are all currently tied for third place in the conference standings.

Iona earned home victories over Monmouth on January 2 and previously unbeaten Canisius January 4 to begin their season at 3-1 while splitting the season matchup with the Hawks at 1-1. The Gaels take on Manhattan next on the road on Friday, January 9 at 7p.m. and then on Sunday, January 11, Iona will host Saint Peter’s at 7p.m.

Niagara split their week of conference play 1-1 falling to Quinnipiac on Friday January 2 and on Sunday, January 4 the Purple Eagles narrowly defeated Fairfield to continue to sit in the top half of the standings. They resume action this week at home versus Siena on Friday, January 9 at 11a.m. before hosting a 1p.m. tip-off with Quinnipiac on Sunday, January 11.

Canisius also split conference play after defeating Manhattan on Friday, January 2 to reach 3-0 in conference play before taking a loss to Iona on the road on Sunday January 2. The Griffs resume action Friday, January 9 at 7p.m. in Buffalo, N.Y and take on league leading Quinnipiac. Canisius will follow up that game on Sunday, January 11 hosting Siena at 2p.m.

On Thursday, January 8 1-3 Monmouth will travel to 0-4 Rider to face off in an hOURglass rivalry game at noon in Lawrenceville, N.J. On Friday, January 9 Fairfield, who sits at 1-2, will take on 1-3 Saint Peter’s at 11a.m. in Fairfield, Connecticut. Finishing out this week’s slate of games will be Rider hosting Fairfield at 2p.m. on Sunday, January 11.

The 2014-15 season culminates with the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Times Union Center in Albany, N.Y. March 5-9. Tickets can be purchased here.
