Men’s Swimmer of the Week

Zack Molloy, Rider

So., 6-0, Toms River, N.J./Toms River HS North

In Rider’s win over UMBC Saturday, Zack Molloy led the Broncs with four first place finishes and three pool records. His two individual wins came in the 200-yard free (1:40.64) and 500-yard free (4:36.82) events. His time in the 500-yard free broke the pool record of 4:37.53, which he set himself just last year. He also swam on the winning 200-yard medley relay (1:34.10) to take down the pool record previously held by UMBC and the winning 400-yard free relay (3:07.00), which also won in record time.

Rider’s 157-141 win over UMBC marks the first time the Broncs have defeated the Retrievers since 2006.

Men’s Diver of the Week

Joseph Warker, Rider

Fr., 5-8, Reading, Pa./Wilson

In his first collegiate dual meet, Warker recorded first and second place finishes in the 1M and 3M dive events respectively. In order to win the 1M dive event, Warker recorded a score of 272.85. His second place finish came in the 3M dive when he was defeated by teammate Wayco Bailey by just 7.2 points. Warker’s performances helped lead the Broncs to Rider’s first victory over the UMBC Retrievers in nine years.  

Women’s Swimmer of the Week

Mary Ellen Mangione, Iona

Sr., 5-8, Parkville, Md./Notre Dame

Senior Mary Ellen Mangione excelled in two dual-meets in New England this weekend at Holy Cross and Providence. Mangione took first place in three of the four individual events she swam as well as two first place relay finishes.

At Holy Cross, Mangione was the top performer in both the 100–yard breaststroke (1:11.27) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.72) events. She swam the breaststroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay in 32.26. The Gael quartet earned a win by more than a second and a half with a time of 1:54.76. Mangione also swam the fastest 100-yard time among the 24 competitors in the 400-freestyle relay clocking a 54.41 in the third leg.

At Providence, Mangione earned first place in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:47.15), topping a Providence foe by three-quarters of a second and second overall in the 200-meter individual medley (2:29.88). Finally, she helped lead her team to a second place finish in the 400-meter medley relay, finishing the breaststroke leg in 1:16.88.

Women’s Diver of the Week

Hailey Beers, Siena

Sr., 5-5, Brockport N.Y./Brockport

Senior Hailey Beers swept the diving events this past weekend in Siena’s 171-115 victory over Assumption College. In the 1M dive, she received a cumulative scorer of 226.90 and a 257.25 in the 3M dive. Her sweep earned 18 points for Siena as the Saints captured 12 of the 16 events en route to victory.
