Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week

Christen Piersanti – Monmouth University, So., Goalkeeper, Bridgewater, N.J.

Christen Piersanti backstopped the Hawks’ defensive unit in their 2-1 victory at Fairfield on Saturday. The sophomore recorded eight saves on the afternoon, including a critical stop on Fairfield’s last effort to tie the game on an attacking corner with time expired.  In the one-game weekend, Piersanti recorded a 1.00 goals against average and a .889 save percentage.

Volleyball Player of the Week

Briana Flagg – Siena College, Jr., Outside Hitter, Naperville, Ill.

Flagg had a career weekend, averaging 5.12 kills and 3.12 digs while hitting .293 on the outside. The junior had a career-best and match-high 21 kills in Siena’s 3-1 loss to Fairfield Saturday, and rounded out a double-double with 11 digs. Flagg had seven more kills than any other player in the match and finished with 22 points. In Siena’s 3-1 victory over Quinnipiac Sunday, Flagg again reached 20 kills, and completed her seventh double-double of the season with 14 digs. Flagg also received 31 services without an error and posted a career-high four aces against the Bobcats. She had eight kills in 10 swings without an error in the first set, keying a .517 team attack percentage in a dominant 25-12 victory.

Libero of the Week

Mallory Bechtold – Fairfield University, Fr., Libero/Defensive Specialist, Cincinnatti, Ohio 

Bechtold averaged 5.78 digs per set in nine frames of work as the Stags’ went 2-0 this week . The freshman accumulated 52 total digs. 27 in the four-set win at Siena and 25 in the five-set, comeback victory at Marist. She was perfect on 56 serve receptions from the Fairfield back row, and filled out the stats sheet with five assists and two service aces in both road games for Fairfield.
