Men’s Swimmer of the Week
Daniel Knoll, Marist
Fr., 6-3, Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon
In his collegiate debut, freshman Daniel Knoll notched 4 first place finishes in a dual meet against conference rival Canisius. Knoll anchored the first place 200-yard medley relay as well as the winning 400-yard freestyle relay. His split time of 20.84 seconds in the medley was .10 seconds shy of his personal best and his time of 46.58 seconds in the 400 relay was half a second off of his personal best. Individually, Knoll won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.57 seconds and clocked in at 47.09 seconds to place first in the 100-yard freestyle. The Red Foxes defeated the Golden Griffins by just ten points in a 153.5 – 143.5 victory.
Men’s Diver of the Week
Wayco Bailey, Rider
Sr., 5-6, Casper, Wyo./Natrona County HS
Senior Wayco Bailey recorded 2 first place finishes to score 18 of Rider’s 180 points in a victory over Fairfield. He scored a 296.85 in the 3-M dive event to win by over 20 points. He continued his win streak in the 1-M event when he beat teammate and previous MAAC Diver of the Week, Joe Warker. Bailey’s score of 318.37 in the 1-M was good enough to qualify for the NCAA Zone meet for the 4th time in his career.
Women’s Swimmer of the Week
Bethany Powhida, Marist
Sr., 5-6, Delmar, N.Y./Bethlehem
Senior Bethany Powhida racked up 27 points for Marist in a 169-122 Red Foxes’ victory in the season opener at Canisius. Powhida won three individual events, including the 100- (59.12 seconds) and 200-yard backstroke (2:06.27). Her time of 5:10.67 in the 500-yard freestyle was good enough for first place, set a school record in dual meet competition, and spearheaded a 1-2-3 finish in the event for Marist. Powhida also anchored the Red Foxes’ 400-yard freestyle relay team that clocked in with the fastest time at 3:40.98.
Women’s Diver of the Week
Lauren Katz, Marist
Fr., 5-2, Ballston Lake, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake
In her collegiate debut at Canisius, Katz scored 218.92 points to win the 3-M dive. Earlier in the meet, she was edged out by less than four points to finish third on the 1-M board with a score of 195.31. Katz helped lead the Red Foxes to 12 of their 169 points in a victory over the Golden Griffins.
