Fairfield
On October 9th, two members of the women’s basketball team accompanied Zach Dayton and Lucas the Stag to the Jennings Elementary School Walk-a-Thon. The Walk-a-Thon is part of Jennings’ annual fundraising campaign to raise money for the school and PTA. Students get pledges from community members and walk as many laps as possible around the school in order to raise money in a short period of time. Students and staff are rewarded for their school spirit and fundraising efforts. Lucas and the women’s basketball student-athletes led the way as Jennings students took several laps around the school that morning.
Iona
Iona Women's Basketball went out in the community along with many other volunteers to help Iona College Celebrate its 75th Birthday. The team was assigned to clean up a local park in the community. The park was in need of some TLC so it could be more appealing to the community and possibly be a place Iona students/staff could go use. The responsibilities the team had at the park was to: rake rocks out of the grass, clean up trash, get trash out of the lake, and paint benches. Many people in the community stopped by and lent a hand as well as passed by and said thank you.
Marist
St. Martin’s CYO Clinic, October 8th - During the clinic the players and staff taught the children the fundamentals of basketball. Following the instructional half of the clinic the boys were able to play against the Marist players.
Niagara
Members of the Purple Eagles women’s golf team volunteered at a local children’s hospital. They delivered door decorations to the children and their families, putting smiles on their faces.
Saint Peter’s
On October 18th, 2015 the Saint Peter’s University women’s softball team walked in the breast cancer walk in Lincoln Park. As a team they raised money before hand to donate to breast cancer research fund that day. It was a positive and moving experience to be a part of.
