Monmouth Men's and Women's Soccer Clinch MAAC Regular Season Championship

EDISON, NJ – The Monmouth University Hawks men’s and women’s soccer teams both clinched the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season championship on Saturday, October 25. Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams will be the number one overall seed in the upcoming MAAC championships and have earned a first round bye.
The men’s soccer team defeated Niagara University 5-3 to clinch their second MAAC regular season crown in the last three seasons. It is the 11th time in program history that the Hawks have won the regular season championship. Nine of the 11 have come under current head men’s soccer coach, Robert McCourt. Monmouth University will be the number one seed at the upcoming MAAC Championships, which take place from November 5-9 down at Disney’s Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. The Hawks will look to win their second straight MAAC Championship in a few weeks down at Disney.
Head coach Robert McCourt said, “It’s another regular season championship.We won one in our first year in the MAAC. We won the MAAC Tournament last year and won the regular season this year. So I’m really excited for and proud of the guys. They’ve worked their butts off the whole season so far and they deserve it.
After a 2-0 shutout victory over Niagara, the Hawks women’s soccer team clinched its third straight MAAC regular season championship. They will host the MAAC women’s soccer championships for the second season in a row. All games will take place at Hesse Field on The Great Lawn. The first round of action starts on Saturday, October 31 with the number 3 and 4 seeds hosting. Semifinal action takes place on Friday, November 6 with the championship game on Sunday, November 8. Monmouth will look to capture its second postseason title in the last three years. The Hawks won its last championship in 2013.
"This was a great ending to our regular season," said head coach Krissy Turner, who led the program to its seventh overall conference regular season title. "We finished our chances, our reserves encouraged the team to get it done and I am very proud of this team. We have gotten every team's best game all season long and in the end we persevered. We are excited to be hosting the conference championships on Hesse Field on The Great Lawn."
